Made from premium tungsten carbide, less downtime and fewer punch changes.
Tungsten Carbide Punch on Stamping
The tungsten carbide punch is widely used in metal stamping production, custom metal fabrication, the injection mold industry, die makers, and the mold design and manufacturing industry.
Many of the manufacturing companies, fabrication companies, plastic mold manufacturers, metal mold manufacturers, mold manufacturers are using our carbide punches for punch and die sets, high-volume production lines. Wear-resistant and high-impact carbide materials excel in these applications.

Wide Application For the Tungsten Carbide
From automotive to electronics, medical, and hardware, the tungsten carbide punch keeps a stable performance across a wide range of industries.

Tungsten carbide punches are widely used in automotive stamping parts, including car body panels, Seat rail slider components, engines, transmissions, axles, and steering assemblies. Their high wear resistance and compressive strength reduced the downtime and extended the tool life.

In the electronics industry, the tungsten carbide punches are widely used for precision USB connectors, micro SIM card trays, and connector strips. The high hardness kept the edge clean for retention. This is very important for the electrical contact and a stable signal output.

Tungsten carbide punches play an important role in medical precision components. They are used for punching the cutting tool inserts, metal needles, and other ultra-precision components. Their tight tolerance and resistance to corrosion make them safe for the patient.

For hardware forming and fastener making, lock washer stampings, forming punches, washers, and bearing cages are used for the tungsten carbide punch’s stable forming capability. The combination of the high compressive strength allows repeated high-load cycles without deformation.
It will be HRA 88 to 92 for the tungsten carbide punches. Compared to steel punches, they are extremely hard and wear-resistant.
The carbide punches can last multiple times longer than a normal punch, but it also depends on the material, application, and grade selection for the carbide you choose.
It is commonly used in progressive die applications, and it provides consistent performance and part repeatability.
For high-volume, tight-tolerance, and high-precision stamping, carbide punches are more suitable than HSS punches. The HSS punch may be more suitable for low-cost applications, prototyping, or high-impact loads.
The carbide punches usually break due to high impact, wrong material selection, or poor die design, but not the tungsten material itself.
You need to ensure the proper die alignment, select the correct carbide grade(YG8, YG15, etc), and a suitable coating is also necessary. Or contact us for optimized punch solutions.
You may choose the correct coating, a suitable die design, and optimize carbide material to increase the lifespan. If you do not know how to choose them, contact us for the best solution.
HSS vs Tungsten Carbide Punch: Which Is Better?
It is cemented carbide for the material of the tungsten carbide punch, its main ingredients include tungsten carbide (WC 88%~94%)& Cobalt(Co 6%~12%), which means very high compressive strength, extremely high hardness and wear resistance, but lower toughness. It maintains edge sharpness and stable hole accuracy.
For a high-speed steel punch, it has intermediate hardness and wear resistance, but high toughness. It is easy to chip and break. That will bring edge wear and dimensional deviation. So it will be cheaper than the tungsten carbide punch, but it lasts longer than the HSS punch.
Compared to HSS punches, carbide punches can reduce downtime caused by tool replacement, increase the scrap rate, and we can provide the tungsten carbide punch OEM service. Our groups will provide the free design advice and laser mark support; we provide not just punches.
